This is the entry point to gravel on the Ride Barcelona list: 34 km on wide, forgiving riverside tracks with only about 250 m of climbing in total. It is designed for riders who have never taken a bike off tarmac and want to find out what gravel feels like before committing to a long day.
The route starts from Barcelona and follows the river out of the city on broad, compact surfaces. There are no technical descents, no sustained climbs and no rock gardens. The effort is steady and the pace is set around the least experienced rider, so you can spend your attention on how the bike handles loose ground, how to shift your weight, and how to brake when the surface changes underfoot.
Compared with the other gravel rides on the site, this is the shortest and the gentlest. The 72 km forest loop east of Barcelona is a full day on farm roads, and the 88 km Garrotxa volcano day is the toughest gravel outing here, built around sustained off-road climbing. The riverside intro is the one to book first, and it works well as a confidence builder before either of those.
