Planning your tours

Ride Barcelona lists guided bike tours that start from or near the city, run by local partners. They cover e-bike city rides, gravel in forests and volcanic country, road climbs, the Costa Brava coast and a three-day Pyrenees camp. Each tour is described by distance, climbing, bike type and duration, so you can match one to your legs and your time before you book with the operator.

How to choose between the tours

Start with the numbers rather than the names. The easiest rides here cover 22 to 40 km with 300 m of climbing or less, and suit beginners, families and anyone returning to riding. The middle of the range is a 72 km day with about 1,050 m of climbing. The hardest options go beyond 1,100 m, up to a 118 km coast day with 1,650 m and a three-day camp with 7,400 m in total.

Then pick the bike: e-bike for city sightseeing, gravel for tracks and forests, road for climbs and coast.

When to go

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for long days in the saddle around Barcelona: mild mornings, little heat and dry tracks more often than not. July and August can be very hot, so early starts matter and shorter or shaded routes make more sense. Winter is usually rideable near the coast, but the Pyrenees can be cold, with snow on high passes. Daylight is short from November to February, which limits full-day rides. Check the operator's seasonal dates before planning around one tour.

Getting there and getting around

Barcelona-El Prat airport connects to the city by metro, train and bus. Most city-based tours meet in central Barcelona, which is easy to reach on foot, by metro or by Rodalies commuter train. Rides to the Costa Brava, the volcanic country inland or the Pyrenees start further away, so read each tour page for the meeting point and whether transport is part of the day. You will not need a car for the city rides.

What to bring and expect

Wear padded cycling shorts for any ride over 30 km, and bring sun cream, sunglasses and a light jacket for early starts or mountain descents. Check with the operator whether bike, helmet, pedals and water are included, and say clearly if you need a specific frame size. Full-day rides usually include a lunch stop, but confirm that on the tour page. If you are between two levels, choose the easier tour; a shorter day you enjoy beats a long one you endure.

Why ride with us

Questions before you book

Which tour is best for a first-time rider?

The Old Town E-Bike Ride (22 km), the Greenway Easy Day (40 km) and the Riverside Gravel Intro (34 km) all have 300 m of climbing or less. The e-bike ride is the shortest; the greenway is flat and traffic-free.

How fit do I need to be for the hard tours?

Hard tours involve more than 1,100 m of climbing or over 100 km in a day. You should already ride long, hilly days regularly. If you are unsure, start with the moderate Forest Gravel Loop.

Is a bike included?

This varies by operator, so check the tour page and the booking details for bike hire, helmet, pedals and water. If you bring your own bike, confirm the operator allows it.

When is the best time of year to ride around Barcelona?

Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons. July and August can be very hot, so favour morning starts or shorter rides, and the Pyrenees are best from late spring to early autumn.

Do I need a car to reach the start?

City rides start in Barcelona and can be reached by metro, train or on foot. The Costa Brava, Garrotxa and Pyrenees tours start further away, so check the meeting point and any transfer before booking.

How do I book a tour?

Each tour page links to the partner operator who runs it. You book and pay with them, and their terms, cancellation rules and availability apply.
